Some Shots in the Suez Canal We arrived in Port Said/Egypt a couple of weeks ago, sailed through the Suez Canal and then south into the Red Sea to Hurghada. Now the boat is in her marina in Hurghada. I met the crew in Cyprus and sailed back to Egypt. These are a few shots I took while we were in Port Said and during the journey in the Suez Canal..........
Thanks for the nice pictures TK.The Suez canal is huge and looks like you had a few other boats with you.The water is spotless too. What a cool delivery.Enjoy. Francois
Dear Tarek, I am glad on your behalf that you've finally reached your destination safely. I hope you have enjoyed the trip. No doubt this boat will open new frontiers in your cruising grounds and you will enjoy her much better than the previous boat. I am look forward to hearing your news for your trip to our area. I hope Nazli will have a chance to meet Nilo. Will she will be crusing together with you to Turkey? If you let me now in advance, I will try to ensure my daughter to be onboard as well. By the way thanks for the nice shots of the Maersk ship
I was waiting for you to comment on the Maersk ship . Thanks for the kind words. Yes, the trip was a new experience for me......I did enjoy it and I learned a lot. I will come soon to your lovely area and I hope Nazly will meet Nilo.......I will bring her with me on part of the voyage and I will let you know of the dates well in advance. Looking forward to meeting you and Nilo. Kind regards, Tarek
Sensational, The boat looks great. The more I think about it the more I want to ship my boat to the med and spend a season there. Wonderful that your happy with the boat.
Hi Tarek, Thanks for the photos, looks like you had a great cruise out there. The big grey boat used to be next to us in Antibes for ages. Chantieri Nicholli built her I think(the daughter designed the interior). It was the old Royal Yacht of Doha called Al Menwha (again, I think). Nice bunch of Italian crew, but the boat didn't seem to do much work. Hope the shake-down cruise went off with no problems. We had the old model of yours out on the hard this week, Boy, have they made improvements to your model. Dave
Thank you Time..........you should come to the Med. It's a very interesting area and will allow you to visit many different interesting countries.
Thank you Dave for the information on the grey boat. The cruise back to Egypt went very smoothly, the boat ran perfectly. Fairline have come a long way from their previous models. They have made excellent improvement. Best regards, Tarek
Hi Tarek Great photos thank you for that, it must have been a nice trip. Enjoy your summer. You have to come to Mallorca for some cruising.
TK, I'm curious about your swim platform and if that is semi custom to your build. It looks like a) it is longer than typical, and possibly b) it is hinged to swing up when you don't have your rib in place. Any details you can share would be great. Much thanks- PB
Hi PB, It's a hydraulic swim platform and it's standard on the Squadron 78. It is longer than typical in order to allow the tender to rest fully on it. It can't swing up.......it can only be lowered to approx. 70cm below water level and once raised it stays at the same level as the fixed part of the swim platform. Regards, Tarek
Tarek, I hope its a bit neater that the Sunseeker platform system. On their's there is so much ironmongery, rods and levers hanging out; if you pressed the 'Down' button a bit harder you would have a great stern anchor built-in.
.........I have seen the Sunseeker system which also moves in a semi circle when being lowered......their swim platform actually moves away from the boat when being lowered. I prefer the Fairline system which allows the platform to move in a vertical direction when being lowered. I'll take a shot of the Fairline system and post it here.
A few pictures I took of the swimplatform while the boat was out of the water for antifouling last week.........
