The Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany and builder of the 115m superyacht "Luna" started recently the construction of a 140m superyacht for a well known owner! As a sidenote: The shipyard was now aquired by the malaysian Genting-Group. They had already aquired a stake in the Shipyard in October 2015. The Group also owns Star Cruises, the 3rd largest cruise ship company of the world (Norwegian Cruise Line) and ordered subsequently 4 cruise ships and 4 river cruise ships worth more than 2 billion dollars. Star Cruises previously also ordered 2 cruise ships at the Meyer Werft in 2014. The workforce at the Lloyd shipyard will be increased from 400 to 700 people.
Genting and related companies also own casinos and resorts throughout the world and are the largest shareholders of Grand Banks, so into recreation and entertainment in so many ways and all sizes and types of boats.
I have heard last summer that a number of Yards in Germany are bidding for a 140m.Great success for LLoyd werft if they succeed to get it then.
Boote Exclusive just reported that the Genting Group decided to build these new cruiseships not at the Lloyd shipyard but at 3 other shipyards in East Germany where they want to invest 100 million euros. Lloyd will be used for refit and repair only. According to the yachting publication the future of the 140m project is uncertain, it sounds like construction has not started as yet.
some interesting news for lloydwerft: http://www.cn-online.de/stadt-land/news/abramowitsch-rettet-die-lloyd-werft.html
Welcome megayachts!! And yes that is some very interesting news for the company. It is going to be a few years but I can't wait to see the vessel.
Since there was a Lloyd Werft thread already started, I think I will just add on to it and change the thread title. The latest from Lloyd Werft is actually a collaboration between themselves and Ulstein. A 71-meter concept called CX124.
