my wife and I are looking to move to a live aboard in the 40' range. I know, only a tender for some of you :). We're looking closely at a Carver 4207 with Cat diesels, and a Jefferson 42 with Cummins. The Jefferson is cosmetically better maintained, but the engines are showing 2600 hours. Realizing this is very high, should I run away quickly? The Car rental has 1200 on the Cats.

Thank you all for any reply.

A lot depends upon what the age of the boats is and if the hours have been accumulated a a few hundered a year or all in a couple of years.

    What are the engine models?

Thank you for the response - she's a '90 Viscount with Cummins 5.9's
We've "known" the boat for several years as we were slipped in the same marina. Rarely used over the past 5 years. Clean and always maintained.
Love her lines and the accomodations

Thats 100hrs a year on the Cummins. They have to be good for at least that much again.
