  1. In Build: Crescent 144' Tri-Deck
A Boat Building Dynamo Emerges in B.C.

Crescent Yachts is nearing completion of its newest and largest motoryacht to date, an
all-composite 144' tri-deck designed by Jonathan Quinn Barnett. Scheduled for completion in the first
half of 2010, the new Crescent 144' is set to become the crowning achievement of 85 previous launches
between Crescent and Queenship, sister corporations under the WorldSpan Marine aegis.

In 2005, WorldSpan acquired Queenship Yachts and Crescent Yachts, both successful and highly regarded names in boat building. A focal point of the acquisition was a state-of-the-art shipyard, a modern 90,000 square-foot purpose-built facility on the Fraser River in Maple Ridge, British Columbia. In addition to the yard, WorldSpan retained key management and operations personnel who originally shaped the reputations of each brand.

Heading up the 144' project is Jim Hawkins, Crescent/Queenship's project manager and build engineer. Together with another industry veteran, Lee Taubeneck, who was previously the general manager of Westport Shipyards and vice president of the U.S. Marine Division of Brunswick Corp, their combined experience places Worldspan in serious contention with the world's finest boat builders.
  2. Today, Worldspan's operations are in full swing with a commitment to sustained growth. The culmination of this is the new 144' Tri-deck, based on a hull form originally designed by Jack Sarin that integrates a bulbous bow with propeller tunnels designed by George Rodden. After an exhaustive two-year planning effort, the new tri-deck will incorporate many of today's best ideas and technologies with a balance of well-proven boat building methods.
  3. A hydraulically operated watertight door in the transom hinges downward to form a water-level platform for watersports, revealing a full-service bar and an exercise room. For the beach club deck, the yacht’s owner has specified a removable sunshade canopy for additional shelter as needed.
  4. The main-deck salon area features lounge seating and an entertainment center. Following a design brief that mandates generous common areas for entertaining, Barnett set out to blur the distinction between interior and exterior areas. By incorporating unusually large windows and locating specific design elements on the diagonal, he preserved a casual openness while facilitating traffic flow throughout the boat.
  5. As an example of the open concept, the main deck bar has been positioned well aft in the salon and has opening partitions for serving guests both in the salon, as well as outside on the covered aft deck. Just forward, a door set on the diagonal allows traffic to flow unobstructed to the side deck. With bar seats facing aft and a flat screen to the side, the area is self contained, yet completely open.
  6. Just forward is a private dining room. Here again, the use of near floor to ceiling windows adds to the one-with-the-surroundings experience. Through a port door, a commercial-grade galley whose layout and generous counter space facilitate in-galley gatherings. A cabinet partition separates the dining area from an innovative, centerline stairway leading down to the lower deck foyer.
  7. The on-deck full-beam master suite features an office positioned outboard to offer a panoramic view, a large walk-in wardrobe and his-and-hers bath with separate shower and jetted tub. On the lower deck are two double guest staterooms, each with en suite baths, and a full-beam VIP suite featuring a private sitting room that can be converted to a second VIP suite.
