Details are sketchy, but a new 74' Spencer sportfish was being delivered to Trinidad when it hit a rock. Details about the rock and why it attacked this boat are unknown...

Here's a pic of the 74' Spencer taking fuel in Fajardo at Puerto Del Ray Marina on its second stop of the trip to Trinidad...

I just noticed that Spencer doesn't list it among it's "Recent Splashes."

I know the owners and the captain here in Trinidad. Really is a sad sight to see a new boat like this. I am glad to hear that the crew was able to make it off the boat safely and that there were no serious injuries

The only thing really important is that there were no casualties and no serious injuries. Boats can be fixed or replaced. Sad to see it happen.

That's the problem with rocks. They grow out of nowhere overnight, so fast they can't be charted. :)

Guess they were trying to take the short cut to Trinidad! Because typically it's mostly all really deep water around there. Looks like a really stable platform to launch the dinghy from. Not sure why the tow boat is trying to drag it when it's sitting on the bottom rather than refloating it.

Hi Capt J, from the talk I heard at the yacht club hear in Trinidad, the boat was resting on a ledge with the stern overhanging into deeper water, and the towing vessel was trying to keep it from sliding off the edge. This is really an unfortunate thing to happen. We were all looking forward to seeing this new boat in Trinidad as 70 ft plus custom sportfishers are not a common sight around here

Not the first vessel to plug in the Lat & Long of N.W. Providence Light as a waypoint in their plotter. Several vessels have nailed it over the years & the most prominent one that comes to mind is the Feadship "Blackhawk " a few years ago.
It seems that its happened so often that the tower structure was going to be replaced by a rock atoll with a beacon in the middle.
Any bank cutters know if this has taken place?

I don't think so. Last time I was through there was several months ago and there was nothing there. There was the broken off I beam that stuck 1-2' out of the water for the longest time and even that disappeared 2 years ago and nothing has been there. But again, last time I was through there was 6 months ago.

Just got back from the exumas, there is now a tall unlit piling. Extends at least 15' above water, shows up nicely on radar at night

feel sorry for Capt and crew, had a similar event twenty years ago.
    0400 phone call from Capt:
    Me: Hello
Capt: Are you awake and sitting down?
Me: I'm awake now, what's the problem?
Capt: I have good news and bad news, which do you want to hear first?
    Me: Good news
Capt: Well, nobody died and no serious injuries...

Description of event evolved from there, but good news was no injuries and nobody died. Still remember that conversation like it was yesterday. In our instance, we didn't have insurance.

Why apologise Beau? Agree with your first post wholeheartedly.
Having a laugh at others loss is not humour in my book.
Sure, its good no one was hurt or perished, but this is an enormous loss to owners, the skipper, crew and probably many locals who make a living out of these boats being used.
No, I am not a Kiljoy or Politically correct in any way (just ask my wife, I've had to send flowers and chocolates too many times after a good night out!).
Taking pleasure in this calamity is not funny, just cheap.

I know three people who have sunk boats over the years.
I know that it is not fun and quite traumatic.
Thankfully, none of them got wet.

The odd thing, none of them know each other but they all hit the same ledge.
