The coolest thing about YF is noodling around and discovering, serendipitiously, arcane items like this. Aluminum Jimmy blocks? Holy moly!
These are the standard inline upright configuration my local dd shop ran the numbers awhile back and told me they were military spec at 285hp with turbo when I ran them they were nat configuration with n80 injectors found out they were aluminum when performing some paint touch up tried a magnet and nothing that started me looking at what I was working with.
The picture of the pancake lay down version was in a Bertram next to me in the 1980s it's truly amazing what Detroit did with these 71 series
We built a 45' Hatteras with a pair of the aluminum inclined models in the mid 70's. My Dad wanted a long range trawler before Hatteras built one so he stretched the hull 6' and added two 500 gallon tanks amidship. The boat is still running strong. 1600 mile range is nice. If you think a Detroit slings oil sitting upright lay them on their side and look out! !
Don't know if there are any special type I used a pencil type I keep in my tool box it's been awhile since I sanded a small spot on the block it's still has shine and other areas the corrosion is a white powder the heads are definitely iron
