I recently acquired my 100ton Master and I am looking to start my new career. Does anyone have any advice on where to start as a new commercial captain? I would really like to find a deckhand position with a seasoned Captain that does transports but I’m not opposed to starting even lower than that.
Someone suggested that I should try and hire on with a water taxi or sight seeing company to start.
For a little background on me, I am not an 18yo recent high school graduate. I served 10 years as a fireman and for the past 10 years I have worked as a corporate safety manager for a commercial construction company.

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

See if there is a Captains Association in your area.

Don't mean to spread ammonia on your parade; There are already 100T (200+) captains out there looking for work already.
Many already reduced to washing boats from their tour of pushing hulls.
It's great when you have work, your asking some that are washing boats now.
3 storms later, were salvaging, can you dive?
