  1. 49.20-meter Superyacht "Ipanema" By MondoMarine
Ipanema is an affluent neighbourhood on the south zone of Rio de Janeiro and is one of the areas that you instantly pair with the word Brazil. Besides being located in Brazil, Ipanema exudes wealth, success, flashiness and beauty. Italian yacht builder MondoMarine launched the near 50-meter superyacht "Ipanema" in 2016 and since then has been the word on everyone’s lips. Perhaps it is the striking Hot Lab exterior design that includes an even flashier finishing of Ferrari red or it is the very interesting interior concept that was done to the owner’s personal taste?

  2. Ipanema is part of what MondoMarine termed the M50 line of yachts. When Milan-based team Hot Lab was asked to execute both on the exterior and interior of this yacht they took the opportunity and ran with it. Ipanema comes in at under 500 GT and still is a very spacious yacht. Exterior deck spaces and the interior work well for the owner. The aft decks have been tailored to be utilitarian and relaxing at the same time. The aft bridge deck is being utilized to store Ipanema’s three PWCs which are served by their own davit system. Large sunpads are available on the aft of the sundeck while comfortable cove cushioned seating is on the aft main deck.
  3. The sundeck is where the action is on Ipanema though. Even with the purposeful elongated hardtop to provide partial shade from the overhead sun, the sundeck is still a very open space. The forward end of the deck is perhaps where guests will find most inviting thanks to a rectangular Jacuzzi pool that overlooks to the forward end of the yacht. Midships, there is plush seating on either side of the deck served by custom wooden tables complete with built-in lights to aid in night dining on the sundeck. Even the center of the ceiling hardtop echoes the custom wood feel of the tables and deck cabinetry with a high-gloss finish wooden inlay. The aft end of the sun deck is kitted out with four enormous sun pads that come together to form one large area filling the beam of that part of the deck. Guests will definitely like it here too!
  4. Here is a closer look at Ipanema’s Jacuzzi pool fitted with multiple jets sure to wash away your stress. A nice touch is that the Jacuzzi pool is fronted by glass on both ends particularly helpful on the forward end as it allows a view out while in the pool. Spill drains line both sides of the pool to control the spilling of the swashing water induced by Ipanema’s movement in the waves when at anchor. When tired of the exterior decks and want to head inside, the interior is sure to get you attention.
  5. The interior is by Hot Lab as well and features many elements blended into one concept. It is a retro-modern feel that utilizes old English and French themes as well plethora of marbles to finalize the classic ensemble. These elements are seen in the fabric patterning in carpeting and upholstery as well as heavy drapery around the windows. The photo below showcases the formal dining room of the yacht with the large table capable of seating the guest complement onboard. Surrounding the table again are many classical elements with inlays, relief work, upholstery and columned woodwork. Let’s not forget that stunning chandelier overhead, it is a beauty!
  6. Here is the master suite in all its full-beam glory and definitely not straying from the classical retro feel. Patterning is the going theme in here with the carpet, bed upholstery, bedhead feature, wall inlays and the chair fabrics all following this concept. As if you could not get enough of the pattern fabric, the ceiling is lined with relief work of mirrors to echo the concept in case the owner forgot!
  7. Guest cabins definitely have a personality of their own and as a guest you cannot confuse your cabin with your neighbour, just remember the dominant colour in the room! Both twins are essentially the same but the individualism in the colours used make them different and unique some way. However, the rooms are basically mirror copies of each other.
  8. The lobby areas are a bit toned down compared to sleeping and other public areas onboard. The theme is matured focusing on wood and marble continuity with a different major art piece encased as the stair swirl ascends and descends each deck. You cannot argue this isn’t a beautiful space with bright lighting from above highlighting the gleaming white marble on the floors. There are more than 10 types of marble utilized onboard Ipanema along with columns, pilasters, carved lintels, friezes and bas-reliefs. It surely makes for a very detailed interior as well as showcase the high level of craftsmanship available with this shipyard.
  9. Ipanema’s sportive exterior is eyecatching and the interior is just as alluring. With a capacity for up to twelve guests in five cabins including two twins, two VIP-grade suites on the lower deck along with the owner’s suite on the forward main deck. LOA is 49.20-meters with a beam of 9-meters and a draft of 2.33-meters. The semi-displacement all-aluminium yacht comes in at 499GT just making it under the 500GT threshold. Two 2,735 horse power marine MTU 12V 4000 M90 power Ipanema to a top speed of 20-knots. A range of 3,500 nautical miles can be had if she is significantly dialed back to efficiently use her 80,300 LT capacity of fuel.
