Prospecting a Chris Craft Cutlass, any suggestions what to look at ? The boat is in the water going for a ride tomorrow, never owned a boat before. 1979 , 22 ft Chris Craft Cutlass, 305 engine with trailer , 6, 500
What do you want anyone to say? You're looking at a 38 year old boat, no real information on it's condition, you've never owned a boat before, we don't know your ability to work on it yourself or to operate it. We'd normally all recommend making your offer subject to survey but perhaps not in that price range. What attracted you to this boat? Where do you intend to use it?
Thanks for the reply! What do you want anyone to say? Just looking for info that an experienced boat person might want to share. What attracted you to this boat? It's a Chris Craft for one, a mid engine and appears to be a small block Chevy marine , I'm a pretty good mechanic and a old school engine with a carb and no computer is exactly in my comfort zone, also it has space to walk around and put fishing gear and what not . Its just a really cool boat to me I like the look and the power plant and the history of Chris Craft. Where do you intend to use it? Hudson river 40 miles north and south of Kingston NY would be my range, lots of boat launches 2- 6 miles from my house so it will be a trailered boat not a marina boat
Condition up close in person looked pretty good I was even more convinced this is the boat for me . We had difficulty starting it due to weak batteries but once it fired it sounded solid yay, we took it out for a 15 minute run down the water way into the very wavy white cap wavy Hudson river the boat I thought handled fine I was impressed . long story short I liked what I saw and how it handled the rough water so I bought it yay !
