    I can agree with you on this, but to quote myself;

"My intention has been to make a rather classic yacht, since she has to survive many trends to come during her lifespan."

Next time we might see something into a completely new direction... :)

Then it is better to make a larger version of Bling, my 100 m design from 1997?
Or maybe this is what they just did...? You tell me! ;)

Roger that. Your designs are generally in synch with the next horizon, I like that. I agree and did notice your intent for lifespan. My suggestion was really to the other members, and as you have shown, something done in 1997 is just now being seen....I was wondering were is the next horizon, does it remain rectangles with interesting profiles (as we have now from the top view and side view) or diamond shapes in all three dimensions...or?

    Great job Lars..

    Thanks Barry,

On the future of yacht design, I have no answer since I think there are different ideas on different yachts, sizes and parts of the world. But I hope that all the meringues with teardrop windows are soon history... ;)

And what about other kind of ships? Do you think DynaRig advances the future of sailing yachts or it's only a breakthru invention whithout continuity?

We have to wait and see how they perform on the big Perini, but the buyer of Maltese Falcon is an experienced sailor so I believe it must have some advantages. Wingsails has been around for over a century in more than 50 different configurations, some better and some worse, but it hasn´t really taken off yet.

I guess that new hi-tech materials, both in spars and sails will make a difference in the future.

I suggest the real breakthrough will be in sail shaping, in which a more rigid airfoil will be variable across the sail plan. Even to the point of or similar to parasails in which air bwetween fabirc of some type is formable.

    Silver lining...

From sails I would like to go into even smaller details, since you as a designer of a one-off yacht have to think of a number of things that makes the yacht personal. It can be everything from the yachts name and logotype, crew uniforms and napkins to door handles, lighting, furniture, carpets, china and other appliances.

All of this has to match the concept of the yacht and adds to the ambiance onboard, why it is also sometimes transfered into the owners next yacht by the same designer.

These items often get "collected" by the guests and has to be in good supply onboard...

Here is a line of tableware I designed in -92 which should still look pretty nice on a yacht like Victoria? :)

Very interesting indeed! Does the detail extend into the engine room, maybe sculpted hadnrails or such to give the capt a reason to show it off?

    30 m / 100 feet Long Range Cruiser

Time to add another yacht, which was in another thread but might be easier to find here. She is one of those classics that despite being designed ten years ago, I like to see being built today. Could be by Moonen, Hakvoort or why not Royal Huisman!
Wasn´t Feadship also talking about building smaller yachts again? :)

    Zooom...

Just for fun and to see what is the difference in size between Superyachts,
I have imposed the 100-footer you see above, on the 100 m "Bling" and the 206 m "Victoria".

This picture is showing the immense difference in volume and explains why I have not even tried to make an interior plan of Victoria. She is more than 100 times bigger than the 30 m yacht!

It also explains why yachts over 100 m in length can not enter many ports...

Yes, I was surprised too! So I have put six of the recent designs from this thread together, to get them in the right perspective...

I still think the trailing edge of Victoria's pilothouse should be swept backwards... similar to the trailing edge on the aft section. ;)

:) I have tried that, both before and now again, but I will not even post it...
I have also removed or lowered the bridge as well as made the forward part a tower same as the aft. Nothing has come out better I am afraid. The top part of both "towers" are semi-open solarium and bbq-areas and the high sides are for privacy and the shape is swept from straight sides to down-angled forward and aft respectively. If the forward tower should be swept all around the whole thing would remind of a chef´s cap... ;)

But you never know, improvements are made every now and then within this thread!

OK, I forgot that she is only in another thread so I put her here as well. She was actually 49 m long and 17 m wide, yes it is a catamaran and would probably be the largest of it´s kind. The project is initiated by our friend TRY and this is a proposal for one of the three sizes of cats he is planning to build in the coming years...

    Lars...

Can you send me a hi-res on the TRY cat? (side and quartering profile) I'm thinking... front page! ;)
