This is Moonshadow, a Moonen 85 LRC, equipped with two Mercedes MTU V12 of 420 hp each. The Moonen 85 were built as Semi Custom in a series of six or seven in the early 90-s. The picture is from Golfe Juan at the 14:th of July 1994.
today, i've seen a moonen 85 here in flensburg, pretty nice boat, not quite sure which one she was, was just able to take 2 pictures with my phone before i had to go - but i like the blue hull, it fits perfectly (sorry fore the pole and the bad weather )
This is Nickeline II, launched as Lady M in 1987. I think she was nr 2 after Cassiopeia. Refit was made at Balkshipyard I think Moonshadow was the first to get a blue hull when Moonen had her in for a major refit; http://www.**********/refits/moonshadow-noa-2008/
I remember Lady M well, she arrived in Antibes at the same we did on the 65m Katalina. I think Boat International magazine did a piece about both of us in the same week. I've always liked that design, nicest looking Moonen they did.
ah yes, i've tried to lookup some bits about Nickeline, she's currently underway to denmark moonshadow has some sort of sunroof on top of the flybridge, Nickeline is quite different there
Former "Jumbo IV" had a big fire damage a couple of years ago, but was restored again(and now in a new blue hull color) has been put up for sale again. Former royal Moonen 85 for sale by De Valk Amsterdam | De Valk Yacht broker - Jachtmakelaar
I found a nice little video of moonen 85 "Noa" leaving fort lauderdale. This is a cool youtube channel of all sorts of Yachts and boats going through the inlet of Miami and ft lauderdale. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UuuGfKljdc
Yes it is the same, but with modifications like the new sundeck connected to the funnel. The name Moonshadow was a tribute to Moonen of course, (Mr Moonen himself was the manager in those days), and the Cat Stevens song Moonshadow. NOTE; I have replaced the expired link about the refit in post #7 above.
After Moon Shadow was sold in '95 was she re named "Midnight Saga II" I believe this vessel was in the Caribbean and South Fl in '98 - '99 and had a Crew from Norway. Capt purchased a used Rolls Royce Silver Spur and shipped back home to cruise around in. Really nice people.
Moonshadow was sold twice in the 90:s but kept her name. I think it was Moonen 85 #1 Cassiopeia that was purchased and renamed by the owner of the 57 m Midnight Saga from Cammenga... He later built a new 34 m Midnight Saga at Hakvoort, renamed to just Saga and later she became Sagamar, a very nice yacht!
I worked on the 57m Midnight Saga when the owner bought M.S. II. The first plan was to keep the Moonen at the house in Norway as a weekender.
