The number of restorations and custom classics are evidently on the rise in the yachting world. From small beauties that evoke the soft and passionate side of the by-gone era to those big, intimidating recreations of the past that contain the highest degree of technology availible today. These are all classic yachts in the question. Well another famous recreation is on the cards and is indeed underconstruction. If you people thought the S/y Meteor was some work, take a look at the s/y Atlantic! The s/y Atlantic is a replica of the s/y Atlantic from 1903. Her specifications are rather impressive and demands the attention of all interested. Here are those specs from the Atlantic's website: Those specifications were taken from here: http://www.schooner-atlantic.com/atlantic-project.htm For those interested in the pictures of the current project and its progress there are a few on the website and they can be found here: http://www.schooner-atlantic.com/atlantic-pictures.htm For those interested in the history of the original s/y Atlantic you can get it. Nowadays we are talking about the distance travelled in a 24 hour period. The s/y Maltese Falcon recently (as recent as the begining of this month May) broke the s/y Cutty Sarks' 24hr run by completing some 380NM. The original Atlantic, not to be outdone, did perform extrememly well for a vessel from 1903. Covering more than 340NM in a 24hr period. She was quite fast, doing 20 knots on seatrials. More history at this link: http://www.schooner-atlantic.com/atlantic-history.htm Did you say you like webcams? Well the replica of the Atlantic has a webcam in the builders shed that is updated everyday. So you can follow her construction progress. http://www.schooner-atlantic.com/atlantic-webcam.php For more though, visit the website and enjoy.. she is sure to be a hit with the classical heads out there. http://www.schooner-atlantic.com/ Enjoy!
