Found an article today about a yacht with iMacs on the bridge. They say, that's the yacht of Steve Jobs (I think it's public known he was working on a yacht). This one should be posted with the thread of roque ugly boats. Bow is kinda cool, but the stern ...........my god thats ugly
Stern is a bit like "A", and I think this design will take more time to get used to than the average standard charterboat. From a Starck yacht you can expect minimalism, and an extravagant look. If you want attention and people notice your boat when you enter or exit a marina: Philippe is your man. The owner didn't want antennae visible or anything such as exhausts that would ruin the lines of the yacht, so I presume they won't add a mast with satcom stuff. Starck's designs seldom are functional, so it's up to the owner if he or she can live with that aspect. Beautiful or ugly: at least she is fascinating and makes viewers curious about her. If you want to stand out from the megayacht crowd, this is the way to do it! The name of the yacht is a surprise to me, anyone got a clue why that particular name?
I think we can see two sat domes hidden behind the wheelhouse superstructure. I wonder where her SSB antennae are located or maybe they just extend when in use. Or perhaps the Apple engineers figured out a way to embed them in the railings or other structure of the yacht like a cell phone antenna?? I love the design, if no one else wants her I will gladly take her off your hands. The proof will be in the pudding of seeing her underway. Lets face it has there ever been a Feadship that did not sail well?? I hate the word but in this case I have to say that everything about this yacht is bespoke, just look at those walls of shear glass, the giant sliding doors, the wall of glass on the main deck stretching from the bow over half the way back towards the stern, and the detailing of the stainless anchors. Just imagine what the views must be like from the room at the bow with windows on both sides, what an unusual use of space on a yacht!!! Now where are some shots of what I am sure will be a super cool interior??? I think everything about her sings!!!!
Hi, Disco, It might not have an SSB , it will depend where it is flagged and who has jurisdiction over the GMDSS requirements. The Sat Antennas are visible on top. I seriously doubt there is any room all the way forward with windows. They might look like it but are probably over the outside of the hull structure.
I Googled "industrial building" and got these pictures. If it is Starck behind this yacht concept, it figures... Philippe Starck: Design and destiny | Video on TED.com
I cannot believe this. This yacht is...let's just say...realllyy different! I'm definitely not pleased.
Yeah she looks so surreal, like a house boat on a lake and not like superyacht able to cross the Atlantic! I mean she must offer spectacular views..but is not really to my taste so far. The owner was revolutionary with his products design and technology wise but that is a bit too strange. BTW she is supposed to be 78m.
I'm surprised he didn't have a design himself for the yacht or have the Apple designers give it a go. It seems like there won't be too much living space compared to another yacht of this size (the trade-offs of the design I guess). Venus might not be the best looking yacht but I do like her. I just hope more photos slip or the Jobs family will decide to do a magazine feature so we get to see more than just the wheelhouse for interior photos.
Choices, choices, choices Should one refer to it as the iYacht or the eyesore Yacht? Did PARC every design such a yacht?
I mean she is really modern looking for sure. Not the best looking yacht really, it's design is quite shocking but when you study it, it's really only the bridge deck and above that throws the entire design off. I'm wondering about the windows in the hull. Do they realllly extend that far forward or are those faux windows to 'complete' the look?
