Delivered in 1991, the yacht is characterized by a very high level of comfort and an extremely high speed. The yacht is suitable for Atlantic crossings. The propulsion plant consists of two KHD diesel engines and a gas turbine each driving a water jet unit.

The revolutionary design was conceived by Martin Francis, France, whereas the interior was designed by Francois Zuretti.

An economic cruising speed is ensured by the two diesel engines, while a maximum speed of more than 37 knots can be reached with the gas turbine. Such an extreme speed is only possible when consequently following light-weight construction. High-strength, 4 mm thick steel was used for the hull, whereas the superstructure was made of GRP. The automated propulsion plant can be controlled via conventional control levers or flying joystick units so that the yacht can be operated from different locations.

Another specific feature is the robot-like, automatic crane for the seaplane arranged in the stem area and the two special tender boats.

    Characteristics:
    Length overall: 74.1 m
    Breadth: 11.2 m
    Draught: 3.5 m
    Speed: 37 kn
    14 passengers (including the owner)
    19 crew

This picture was taken during the Cannes film festival in 2003. Eco had just returned from Auckland. It stayed in the old Port de Cannes for a while.

Katana has been sold, it seems it went for 50 mio USD. The new owner is Aidan Barclay, son of the owner of The Telegraph. Seems he has used it a lot. It seems on the back of it now it's a soccer goal that has been put and not a basketball court ! Her new name is ENIGMA

A family not a million miles away from my home slipway owns this boat and another one a bit smaller. I have known this yacht and its construction history quite well since it was new, very good friends have worked on it for years.

The interior has been up-dated over the years(the photos are about 18 years old now). When she was launched, she was a real revelation to what was possible.

With the Film Festival going on in Cannes and the Monaco Grand Prix coming up in a couple of days, you can expect some nice yachts in the area. Here are the two B+V yachts, Enigma and A at Antibes tonight. Picture taken by another YF:s member...:)

Wow two design icons from two different decades and the same yard - great photo! thanks. I have never admired Enigma and will not do it in the near future...

That's the very reason why the photo is 'great'. The fact that it shows two superyachts built by the same yard from two totally different decades. You can juxtapose the differences in design from the two eras. Although "Eco", "Katana", "Enigma" wasn't a favourite of many, she sure had some really nice features for her time and she was fast! "A" is fast as well and has many nice features hidden in her profile.

Enigma has just been put on the market for €47,500,000 and she can still hit 42 knots!

Here is a new link for her in Port Hercule of Monaco video.

Just seen the photos of Enigma on the listing site, the current interior looks very nice.

Looking back at old photos of her it appears that at one point she had a glass dome over the forward main deck (basically providing a skylight into where the bridge currently is based on the listing photos); this seems to have been removed at some point. I wonder if the layout was changed and the bridge was relocated from the current top deck to the main main deck...???

No, the layout did not change, the bridge has always been in that position. The dome was originally in place because it was thought having the bridge on the main deck could compromise visibility. There was an observer position beneath the dome, but visibility proved not to be an issue, so the dome was removed during her refit as Katana.
